Located in an area of outstanding natural beauty, the owners of this listed Georgian home wanted to add a rear extension to their home to create a spacious kitchen/ dining area. Due to the consent required in order to make any alterations to a listed building within a conservation area, it was extremely important that the extension be sympathetic to the architectural style of the building, including details such as the rendering, windows and fascias. We worked in close collaboration with the client’s builders to ensure that we supplied a window and door configuration that delivered both aesthetically to the client’s taste but also satisfied the local conservation officer in order to achieve approval.
The chosen windows and doors are of tradition timber construction with double glazing for added energy efficiency from our very own Knight Collection. Externally the windows have been finished in a bespoke RAL colour to match seamlessly with the client’s existing windows, with a white finish internally providing a bright homely feel. The windows and doors have been fitted with a single vertical and horizontal glazing bar which completely transforms these windows from a standard timber window to a window that is visually stunning and a real feature of the extension. The windows and doors are finished in a 5 stage paint process giving a hard wearing finish to ensure longevity of the product. The French doors have been supplied with two sidelights either side of two individual doors providing a sympathetic visual balance across the otherwise large aperture, enhancing the overall aesthetic whilst achieving excellent views of the garden beyond.
To add more natural light into the extension, an aluminium roof lantern has been added which provides a real wow factor and is particularly appropriate as Orangeries, otherwise known as Sun Rooms were a very popular way to add extra space onto traditional properties. Internally the extension has been finished with a traditional kitchen and stone floor, perfectly complementing the heritage of this property.
Our clients have achieved incredible results with this project, creating a living space perfect for modern living by adding a structure that compliments the architectural style, without compromising on the integrity of the property.
