Steel Alternative Flat Roof Extension

We worked with our client and a local builder to replace an existing conservatory with something more modern. We designed a new flat roof extension utilising the existing conservatory base and brickwork. For the walls we used a steel framework infilled with a number of steel look aluminium screens and for the roof a standard flat roof with roof light.

For the roof we created a large overhang to the exterior to add detail and help prevent the room from getting too hot during the summer months. Utilising a deep timber, we were able to use deep insulation boards to help reduce the overall u-value.

All walls were made up of our new aluminium heritage screens giving a modern art-deco look. The screens add a tremendous amount of character to the space whilst allowing lots of light through and the homeowners have an almost 360 view of their beautiful garden.

Throughout the rest of the home, we have installed several internal single and double doors as well as larger screens modernising the interior and giving a better flow of light and space. Our internal and external systems are slightly different however both offer thinner glazing bars than are available on many other systems achieving a closer look to steel.

The roof is supported via several thin steel columns that have been wrapped in a black cladding to tie in with the screens. Both ends of the room have a set of French doors installed to allow access to the large garden at either end.

To the side of the new extension, we swapped an existing standard window with a Oriel window creating a much larger viewing space as well as a deep window ledge. The new window ledge was designed to create a large window seat.

The finished result is a complete transformation and modernisation of an existing space without the cost of doing a completely new extension.
