Offering a wide range of glazing methods and original profiles, our historic sash window range ensures you will be able to reproduce an accurate match to an original design.
Reproducing the traditional method of operation, George Barnsdale Historic sash windows are available as box sash windows with cords and weights. Additionally we offer a spring balance option with a narrower jamb profile if required.
Using the high quality Allart ironmongery specially selected for its traditional appearance, George Barnsdale sliding sash windows enjoy the finish and performance of a traditional window with the benefit of the highest criteria of window operability external tests.
With a range of hardwoods and the modified timber Accoya available, you can specify the construction material of your window. Our standard timber of choice is Engineered Redwood, free from knots and imperfections and with the benefit of being able to be produced to almost any length, reducing wastage. By removing knots, in addition to the aesthetic benefits, we also prevent resin exudation, which damages the coating. Additionally, the reduced moisture uptake and increased stability of this timber creates a substrate which actually enhances the life span of the coating (this being the key to a long life due to the protective feature of a coating, thus protecting the window indefinitely). The windows linings, usually a weakness in sash windows due to them being exposed to the conditions, are unable to be produced from engineered timber due to their narrow sections. For these areas we use the advanced timber Accoya which offers exceptional durability which overcomes this problem completely.
We have developed an advanced coating system, designed to provide maximum timber protection, while also allowing it to breath and showcase its natural characteristics. This system is crucial for the longevity of timber windows and we are so confident with our exceptional system that we offer an impressive 10 year guarantee on our paint finishes. Our coating system can be produced in almost any stain or paint colour, simply provide a RAL, NCS, British Standard code or supply us with an actual sample. If you would like a different colour outside and inside, we can also provide a dual colour window for ultimate flexibility
We offer a comprehensive range of glazing options which can again be customised to suit your individual application. Some of the most popular options we offer are:
Historic Glass Options
Available in a range of thickness's, with security, toughening and acoustic laminates, as well as solar control options available.
Historic Double Glazing
Using warm edge spacer bar and Krypton gas to provide good thermal insulation, our standard narrow double glazed unit with security, toughening and acoustic laminates, and solar control options are also available.
Pilkington Spacia (Vacuum Glass)
The best performing and also the narrowest glazing is created with a vacuum between the two panes. The use of this glass allows the thermal performance criteria (outlined in Building Regulations) of most products to be met.
Accepted by many planning departments, Histoglass is a very well regarded narrow glazing solution that will often be accepted without the need to submit a sample. Similar to our Historic Double Glazing option, Histoglass uses an aluminium spacer with a wide range of colour options available. Available with different glass manufacturing processes such as Machine Drawn, Hand Drawn and Cylinder glass in order to very accurately create the optics from older glass.
