Symphony

Symphony is our top of the range UPVC sash window and probably the best currently available on the market.  With an unrivalled specification featuring the best of the best, it is no surprise that virtually every optional extra you may wish for is fitted as standard on a Bygone Symphony window.

Key specification:

  • Authentic wood grain textured acrylic foil across all profiles
  • Traditional “butt jointed” vertical and sealed corners for an authentic construction appearance.
  • Exclusive ‘Bygone only, Super-Slim’ 39mm Transom, sure to impress the most critical conservation officer.
  • Slimline 16mm WER “A rated” sealed units, filled with Krypton gas which affords deeper internal georgian bars, glazing beads and chamfered external bars offering the ‘putty-line’ traditional glazed appearance.
  • Fully “secured by design” compliant, police approved and the preferred sash windows specification due to the fully steel reinforced sashes and the exclusive Bygone stainless steel clawed cam catches with porcelain ball design.

Exclusive Symphony Authentic Vertical Butt-Joints

Traditionally sash windows were made with mortice and tennoned vertical joints for centuries, however, due to the challenges of UPVC and its construction, replicating this authentic appearance has always been a challenge in UPVC, which typically feature a 45 degree welded joint, compromising the authentic appearance.

Bygone Symphony windows are unique in that all corners feature traditional vertical joints, as well as a wood grained textured acrylic foil, which gives it the incredibly authentic appearance of a traditional sash window.

While the standard colour of manufacture is while, a cream coloured foil is also offered in this range. For those wanting to truly customise their windows, any RAL chart or “Farrow and Ball” colour can also be created.

39mm Super Slim Mid Rail Transom

Having traditionally been made with timber, original period sash windows did not face the challenges in design and aesthetics that UPVC windows must now overcome.
Due to the very different strengths and weaknesses compared to wood, UPVC has previously struggled to replicate the timber aesthetics of original sash windows. This particularly affected the mid rail, due to the UPVC requiring it to be a minimum of 52mm deep in order to accommodate the steel reinforcement and provide the strength to hold the glass in the sash.

Overcoming this issue, the Bygone Symphony had lead the industry by introducing a ‘Super-Slim’ UPVC mid rail measuring a huge 13mm smaller than standard at only 39mm. This seemingly small reduction makes all the difference to the aesthetics of the window, making Bygone Symphony and its timber counterpart almost indistinguishable.

Extra Deep Bar and Bead on Slender Sealed Units

While all windows in the Bygone range are secured by design, “A rated” as standard and steel reinforced, Symphony offers the next level of specification, featuring slimline 16mm sealed units containing Krypton gas.

Due to its enhanced performance in narrower units compared to the more commonplace chunky double glazed units, krypton gas affords Symphony the internal aesthetics of an authentic sash window, featuring really deep astragal bars and glazing bead. To finish, the traditional “putty-glazed” appearance is provided by the externally chamfered sashes and bars.

Recessed Limit Stops and Colour Suited Locks

Solid stainless steel cam catches and face fixed keeps are fitted to every Symphony sash window either singularly or in a pair.

For better security and unique to Bygone windows, large sashes will be centralised within the frame by a pair of left and right handed cams. Single cams are fixed with 3 screws so that they cannot be forced apart.

Every keep is attached by 4 screws, 2 horizontally into the steel reinforcing and 2 for vertical alignment. Additionally, to protect the plated surface of the stainless steel claw, each keep is also fitted with a special nylon insert.

For those seeking the Acorn or Beehive motif, or those who would prefer Symphony’s own special Porcelain Ball design, the choice is yours.
